Elderly Disabled Man Attacked In Mansfield

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly, disabled man was assaulted in Mansfield in an unprovoked attack at the weekend.

The 84-year-old man was riding on a mobility scooter on Jubilee Way South, near to the Oaktree Leisure Centre, at around 6.45pm on Saturday when he was approached by six or seven young males.

One offender demanded money from the victim. When he said he had no cash, two other offenders pulled the victim from his mobility scooter and onto the floor.

The offender who had demanded money then rode off on the scooter, causing considerable damage to the vehicle. He returned a few minutes later and tipped the scooter on top of the victim’s legs. The group then ran away. The victim was trapped under the scooter for around 15 minutes until a member of the public came to his aid.

The victim was shaken and sustained minor injuries. Offender one is described as white, aged 15 to 18, 5’10” tall and of slim build. He had stubble in the shape of a goatee beard, several piercings in both the top and bottom of his left ear and a nose ring. He wore a navy blue hoody and tracksuit bottoms. He was referred to, by another member of the group, as ‘Louis’.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
